Another successful season of Girls' Gymnastics in now in the record books for close to 100 local high school gymnasts with the completion of the O.F.S.A.A. Championships in Peterborough last Wednesday and Thursday.

A total of nine secondary schools represented the S.D.S.S.A.A. and N.O.S.S.A. at the All-Ontario meet this year, with the locals managing some impressive results, including a number of top five performances.

In team competition, the Sudbury contingent placed fourth of seven Districts in Level I and Level II, in Level III, Sudbury schools placed third of seven, and Level V, Sudbury placed second of six Districts.

In individual competition, the highlight of Sudbury results came from Notre Dame's Stacy Michlovski, who entered a total of two first place finishes in Level III competition, leading a field of thirty-one in the uneven bars and floor events. Other result highlights were as follows:

VAULT - Julie Bouverat (Notre Dame) - 5th, Helen Filion (Lasalle) - 9th, Jasmine Coulombe (Notre Dame) - 13th

BARS - Jasmine Coulombe (Notre Dame) - 8th, Monique Faubert (Lockerby) - 12th

FLOOR - Katie Von Scheidt (Lo-Ellen) - 14th, Lindsay Moore (St. Benedict) - 14th

BEAM - Lindsay Moore (St. Benedict) - 4th, Allison Merla (Lo-Ellen) - 7th, Emily Power (Notre Dame) - 7th

 

LEVEL III

LEVEL V

VAULT - Danielle Gervais (Notre Dame) - 7th

BARS - Danielle Gervais (Notre Dame) - 6th

BEAM - Kyla Vainio (Lo-Ellen) - 6th, Katie O'Hara (Lockerby) - 7th

FLOOR - Katie O'Hara (Lockerby) - 6th, Danielle Gervais (Notre Dame) - 7th

Congratulations are extended to all gymnasts who earned the right to represent our region at O.F.S.A.A. gymnastics this season!

 

O.F.S.A.A. BADMINTON STARTS NEXT THURSDAY

Thursday, May 4th will mark the beginning of COED O.F.S.A.A. Badminton Championships, hosted at St. Charles and Cambrian College.

Preliminary round competition begins at 12noon on Thursday in both venues as follows: CAMBRIAN - Men's Singles (12noon), Mixed Doubles (12:50pm), Ladies' Singles (2:05pm), Men's Singles (3:20pm) and Ladies Singles (4:10pm). ST. CHARLES: Men's Doubles (12noon), Ladies' Doubles (12:50pm), Men's Doubles (2:05pm), Ladies' Doubles (2:55pm) and Mixed Doubles (3:45pm).

Preliminary round competition continues in both venues at 9am on Friday until approximately 5:30pm at Cambrian and 3:30pm at St. Charles.

Finals will begin at 9am Saturday in St. Charles College in the various events and continue until approximately 12:30pm, after which the medal presentations will take place.
