EAGLES JUNIOR CLASSIC INVITATIONAL BASKETBALL

October 2-3 @ Horizon

Eight schools from the city, Manitoulin and North Bay took park in this tournament on the weekend. All games were held at Ecole Secondaire Catholique l'Horizon.In the opening game Friday in front of the entire student body at Horizon, the host Eagles lost 30-24 to Algonquin of North Bay. A collection was made at the door with each student paying 2,00$ with a total of 250,00$ collected going towards the Alzeimer society.

Notre Dame Alouettes VS Lo-Ellen Park Knights
 
This was a classic titanic struggle between two city powerhouses which figure to meet in the city championship later this Autumn.They fought a see-saw battle throughtout in a very defensive match up.The Alouettes took a 20-11 lead at the half but the Knights fought back with great character on several steals and turovers to tie it at 28 with 1 minute left in the contest.Late in the final moments Amber Houle(tournament MVP) went tothe line for fopul shots and also scored a key baskets in the final seconds to give Notre Dame the championship 31-28.Houle was the top scorer for the winners collecting 14 points with Rebecca Johnston getting 13 for the Knights.Other members of the winning gold medal team were: Stephanie Cyr,Christina Vachon,Stephanie Fournier,Jesica Lanteigne,Sophie Lalonde,Melanie Vaillancourt,Cassy Watt,Courtny Conaty,Katrina Lafortune and Holly Stevens.They were coached by twelve year veteran Bob Blanchard.
