Following some 21 games over this past weekend in both the Junior and Senior Conferences, two champions emerged for this most memorial tournament to one of our fallen comrades from ten years ago. In 1993, a fine and beloved teacher for years at Northeastern Secondary school as well as an excellent basketball official Jaak Valiots lost his valiant battle to cancer. It is in his honour that this basketball tournament for boys is held with high prestige each season by the basketball officials association now known in as Greater Sudbury Basketball Officials Association.
In the Junior Cougar Conference once again the defending champions from Lasalle Secondary emerged as winners. In the championship final the Lancers started off slowly but then took over winning 63-39 over St Charles College Cardinals. Once again it was the Eric Marques' show as he delivered in a big way scoring 29 points including 4 from outside the arc. Eric without any surprise was named the tournament MVP.
